To dream/wish/hope of winning big

On Tuesday, I was thinking about some that weekly buy these lottery tickets, scratch tickets etc hoping to win big. Many spend money on the wish, hope and desire of winning the lottery…sadly only a very small percentage wins. I have heard over the years on some that spend over $50.00 a week, and win a sometimes a small amount but never replenish the amount they have spent. Will this money truly make them happy? Some say, sure, it would solve a lot of problems, helping pay off mortgages, and the accumulated debts, some get a new car as theirs is in need constantly of repairs. But even after that fact… this will not make them happy, not in the long run, for they will continue to seek more in spending, it would be like running in circles and never arrive at the finish line.

Are they happier?

There is only one winning ticket that is the ultimate: and that is the ticket to heaven. Will you give your life to Jesus now? How do we get all these debts in the first place? It is time for us, to be serious, live a simpler, humble life and get back to the basic. Never mind getting the newest technology, a newer car with all the gadgets, a bigger house. It will not make you happier, in fact it will still make you more in debt and still wanting to reach for more.

I can go on and on with this, but I won’t, I think you know where my thoughts are on this subject. It is time we all make an effort to start reaching for a simpler life and not let those big corporations make loads of money with their gadgets and just live a more simple, quiet life.

  1. Excellent advice! All that we have accomplished by succumbing to the lures of consumerism is that we have virtually enslaved ourselves to the corporations. We need to live simpler lives, less encumbered with “toys” and gizmos, that we may the hear the voice of our Lord louder and clearer.
