Winter… cold, wet, shorter days. As March comes around, the days begin to be longer daylight. Then, as you driving around, you see homesteads with buckets hung on Maple trees as the sap begins and is being collected to make Maple syrup. You take a deep breath of air, and the smell of spring is in the air. Yet, just as you feel winter is finally over, another snowstorm. We begin to groan, moan and feeling cabin feverish. When is old man winter going to let go? Yet, I still feel spring is soon coming, I get excited in planting my tomato seeds in my mini greenhouse. As I was driving home from work today.. I finally see my first robin! Woohoo, spring is here! I look forward to seeing my first robin, even though there is still snow blanketing most of the ground, seeing the robin is just another sure sign that spring is here. Which brings me to another reason to be excited for spring. And that is remembering what Jesus did upon that cross for us. He shed His blood to wash away our sins. He paid our debt for us! How amazing and loving He is. Our Lord was prepared to die. He knew he was going to die. He said, “My appointed time is near.” Jesus knew that Calvary was just around the corner. He wanted to prepare His disciples by observing the Passover meal with them. The Passover meal was instituted by God for the people of Israel to remember their deliverance from Egyptian bondage. The Lord’s Supper is our special memorial meal which reminds us of our deliverance from the bondage of sin through the death of Christ. This is why we are here. We are here to remember the body and blood of the Lord Jesus. We remember that Jesus came in the flesh, that He was God incarnate, God in the flesh. We remember Jesus’ blood that shed on the cross so our sins could be forgiven. So there is a lot of reasons for us to look forward and be glad for spring. But the most important reason is knowing Our Lord Jesus, paid for our sins on that cross, and as promise, He is risen, Yes, He is risen Indeed!
