Make it Your Custom

Today, join me in reading Luke 4:14-30

“And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up; and he went to the synagogue, as his custom was on the Sabbath day.” – Luke 4:16

Practice, said someone, does not make perfect. That is the same way for us too in reading the bible. It makes permanent place in our hearts. And there is a lot of truth in that. There are many times when habit can carry us through rough places. By doing a thing consistently, we may continue to do it when we are undergoing inner stress and turmoil, and the habit can be like a strong rudder carrying us through the storm. Worship, regularly and faithfully done, can be such a custom. It seems clear that Jesus felt the need for it in his own life. Another custom which prevailed in times of stress for Jesus was prayer. If Jesus made a custom of prayer, how much more need we to practice his custom!
