Examine your heart, life

lamentations 3-40

This morning’s reading: Lamentations 3:31-66

“Let us test and examine our ways and return to the Lord!” – Lamentations 3:40

“Discipline first requires self-examination, then it means crucifixion of the old sinful ways (saying ‘no’ daily), and lastly, practice in following Jesus Christ in new ways by the guidance and strength that the Holy Spirit provides through His Word. The biblical way to godliness is not easy or simple, but it is the solid way.” But even in the midst of his lamentations and expressions of grief, he calls on the people to “test and examine our ways and return to the Lord.”

Look at your own life in the light of this passage, and “test and examine” the patterns which seem so natural and right. Perhaps the Lord is waiting to show you where you can begin to change by crucifying the old sinful ways and by using his promised strength to build new patterns of obedience!
